I know what you’re thinking, not another blog about mental health. Well it’s the latest trend and everyone seems to be talking about it and so they should. The reality is that there are many people now more than ever suffering with mental health problems. One of the many difficulties around mental health issues is that they can be very isolating and hard to see because of this it can cause other problems which not only affect the person but also the people around them friends, family, colleagues and other members of society.
I’m not one to brag but I have had my very own Mental health issues. When my life took a major turn at 20 years old I had my very existence questioned, my self identity shattered, depression found its way in and I started to ask questions that are difficult at the best of times. Further I fell into depressed states eventually I was introduced to anhedonia and boy was that an experience. The troubling thing was that I was seeing a psychiatrist and was on a very high level of anti-depressents and was still looking at the world with a glass half empty. It’s clear to me now that how I was wasn’t of any benefit to myself in fact it did a lot of harm. For the last 10 years I’ve lived in my head and am now in a place where I rarely see the glass as half empty. My growth hasn’t been an easy one and by no means am I fixed but I can safely say that I’m now in a place where I feel confident about myself and able to move forward.
Struggling with my Mental health is possibly the hardest thing I have managed and is why I wanted to talk, write and share with you. I’m not here to tell anyone what to think. I just want to help people understand issues around mental health because if we help ourselves live a better, happier life then we can help support each other and those around us.
This blog is going to be a place where mental health will be explored from sharing my experiences to my own revelations about life, about people, about nature, how to slow down and exploring with me about how the mind works. The things we can do in our lives to help cultivate a better mental state and live better. I will achieve this by talking about the areas over a three week rota. Simple Living, Nature & Mind. A space for resilience, honesty, courage, community, exploration, growth and much more. I’ve no idea where this place will be heading but I’m hopeful it will be useful to you.
